The Press Democrat Feature: Kids get in on the action at Goatlandia in Sebastopol — Everywhere you looked Monday at the Goatlandia Farm Animal Sanctuary in Sebastopol, all you saw were kids – of both the human and baby goat variety.

Children were invited to bottle feed the sanctuary’s newest rescued baby goats as part of an ongoing fundraiser for the farm. The money from the feeding and cuddling session goes directly to the care of these baby animals…

In July's Sebastopol Living magazine, we celebrate Deborah Blum of Goatlandia Farm Animal Sanctuary and Education Center, whose definition of a "career pivot" apparently means trading restaurant empires and front-of-house hustle for 5:30 a.m. barn calls, with 155 rescued souls counting on her for breakfast. While most restaurateurs might miss the buzz of dinner service, Deborah found her true calling in a different kind of hospitality. She proves that sometimes, the most meaningful service happens far from any dining room—and straight into the hearts of animals who need you most.

Goatlandia is just pure heaven. If you haven’t noticed yet, I love animals. Always have, always will. I had the great pleasure of visiting again and documenting the arrival of 16 kids that ranged in age from a day to just a few weeks. It was pure heaven for me. Sitting in a pen with four little babies climbing on me and sucking on my fingers and hair. Heaven!!!

Goatlandia is an animal sanctuary that rescues farm animals and educates the public about the choice for a compassionate lifestyle. Almost everyone loves animals, and most people don’t want to see animals suffer, be harmed, or be killed. But sadly, in the U.S. alone, over 9 BILLION (not counting any sea animals) are killed each year for food. The good news it that be being vegetarian or vegan, you can save a lot of animals’ lives. It’s estimated that a vegetarian can save 25 land animals per year, and a vegan close to 200! Not only is eating veg good for the animals, it’s better for the planet, the environment, and our health. Over 100 animal lovers, nonprofit employees, and tech do-gooders gathered at Airbnb Headquarters for the event. They snacked on a colorful buffet of plant-based food and toured the booths of four organizations offering unique Airbnb Animal Experiences here in the Bay Area. For many attendees, it was their first time learning about the rescued farm animals of Charlie’s Acres and Sweet Farm, the best kind of yoga — goat yoga — offered at Goatlandia, and the loveable senior dogs of San Francisco-based Muttville.

Sonoma County: the seat of Wine Country, a rich and talented theater scene and a vibrant and knowledgeable agricultural community, all of which get set ablaze every year, putting us all in firm need of a good party. Hippies, wiccans and theologians of all walks would likely agree these are the necessary ingredients for a ritual to honor Dionysus, known as “Bacchus” to his Roman pals.
